This weekend, for the first time, I had a passenger on my bicycle, my three-year-old daughter. I purchased one of those seats that attaches behind your own seat. Also, a helmet for her; it is pink and covered with strawberries, just like mine. (Actually, not just like mine).
We biked together back from the bicycle store in Bethesda. I enjoyed the ride, but I could use some kind of mirror. I cannot see her at all. I have to stop the bike and turn around to check on her. On that ride, she took a nap.
Sunday evening I biked to Dupont Circle with her. Checked in on the kid at each metro stop along the way. I am definitely bicycling very carefully with such precious cargo, but it feels safe. But I am not sure how fun this is for the passenger—she seemed a little drowsy again.
Connie drove down later to join us and we picked up burritos and brought them back home to eat.
